The Coors Field baseball stadium, home to the Colorado Rockies professional baseball team, was completed in 1995 on a 76-acre site north of LoDo and Denver’s Central Business District. A classically-designed brick and iron stadium, Coors Field has seating for 50,445 fans. The Ballpark urban village neighborhood, anchored by Coors Field at the southern end, covers approximately 20-blocks.

Early in Denver’s history, the Ballpark area fronted a myriad of railroad tracks and sidings and developed into a mix of warehouses, storehouses, factories, and light industrial buildings revolving around train-related activities. This is where many of Denver’s early immigrants found work – hard work. Most of the area’s 2-3 story buildings were constructed of brick for strength and fire resistance. Much of the Ballpark neighborhood retains its commercial and industrial zoning and many of these buildings function as such today.

Many of these brick buildings have been converted into office space and residential living space. Staying true to their industrial functions, many of these converted buildings have retained the character of their exposed wood structural beams and water pipes together with their original train / truck loading docks. With the area’s industrial heritage comes a shortage of tree-lined streets and sidewalks. The neighborhood feeling is more the grit of turn-of-the-century city commerce. In 2002, the Ballpark Historic District was created to protect and guide the preservation and renovation of this important area representing Denver’s past.

North Larimer Street runs through the center of the Ballpark neighborhood. You will find an eclectic mix of jazz clubs, antique shops, breweries, bar pubs, ethnic restaurants, art galleries, pawn shops, small business offices, and more. The Ballpark Market, an open-air flea market comprised of over 100-merchants, is held monthly from April to October. Hosted on Larimer Street between 21st and 22nd Streets, you will find arts and crafts together with fresh farm produce and baked goods.

Gritty, eclectic and a baseball fan’s paradise, the Ballpark urban village is full of character and personality. Outdoor activities and nightlife are abundant together with a sense of community. Most Ballpark residents would not live anywhere else!
