GOLDEN TRIANGLE Condos Lofts For Sale Today

It was the 1858 Gold Rush that brought the first settlers to this area just south of today’s Downtown Denver.  The Golden Triangle is bounded by Speer Boulevard, Colfax Avenue, and Lincoln Street.  Also known as Civic Center, the area uniquely is home to a large concentration of public buildings and spaces influenced by construction of the Colorado State Capitol nearby in 1904.  In 1902, the Denver Municipal Art Commission first discussed the concept of a civic center that would be home to various cultural institutions, municipal buildings, public monuments and a central park.  Various plans were proposed and weathered the changing political winds of the times.  The Central Library funded by Andrew Carnegie opened in 1910, the Pioneer Monument was constructed in 1911, the Colorado Museum Building in 1915, the State Office Building in 1916, the Greek Theater and Colonnade of Civic Benefactors in 1919, the Voorhies Memorial Gateway in 1921, the City and County Building in 1932, the State Capitol Annex in 1939, and the Denver Art Museum in 1971.

Perhaps the most visually notable structure within the Golden Triangle is the Frederic C. Hamilton Building designed by Daniel Libeskind and completed in 2006.  The titanium-clad structure’s modern architecture and gravity-defying lines stimulates much conversation.  Other Golden Triangle public buildings also evolved.  The Denver Central Library replaced the Carnegie building in 1956.  In 1995, the current expansion of the Central Library with its inspiring architectural elevations was opened.  Further, the Golden Triangle is home to the United States Mint and the Denver Police and Denver County Sheriff's department headquarter offices.

The first recorded subdivision in the area dates to 1885.  The original housing-stock in the area was Victorian-era row houses.  Beginning in the 1950’s, these dilapidated and sometimes abandoned houses were replaced with car dealerships, auto repair shops and flat-top parking lots.  Then the area began its renaissance as an art and culture center with the Denver Art Museum “castle” in the 1970’s.  The conversion of original warehouses, repair garages and industrial buildings into residential lofts and commercial space for law firms, architects and other small businesses followed.  The new construction of low-rise and high-rise condominium buildings have added in excess of 500-residential units in the area in the past ten-years.  Several of the large luxury projects include stunning architect, doormen, security and concierge services for their lucky residents.  Here and there, you will still find a few restored Victorian row homes from the turn-of-the-century and some classic Denver bungalows from the 1920’s and 1930’s.

The 100%-volunteer non-profit Golden Triangle Association promotes and gives direction to the area.  Monthly, a free “Art Bus” tours the neighborhood participating museums, galleries and artist studios.  The GTA is active in promoting the area’s small parks and common areas.  Acoma Street is a good example of some of the area's upgraded streetscape that serves as an outdoor gathering place and promenade for neighbors and visitors.  It is common to find the area residents walking their dogs through the parks in the evenings socializing.

While the Golden Triangle Civic Center is a collection of public buildings, most importantly, it is a personally prideful neighborhood of and for its residents.
