Moving or Relocating To Denver Colorado

In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy looked around and said to Toto, "We're not in Kansas anymore".  If Dorothy were in Denver 150-years ago, she would have been wrong.  In 1858 when William Larimer established Denver City and began to sell lots, it was part of the Kansas Territory.  Larimer, being politically clever, named his new city after Kansas teritorrial govenor James Denver.  Just a few months earlier, gold had been discovered nearby and throngs of miners and merchants poured into the make-shift mining camps including Auraria near the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek.  Larimer staked-out his mile-square claim next door.

The Territory of Colorado was formed by Congress in 1861.  The ensuing Colorado General Assembly created 17-counties including Arapahoe County with Denver City as the county seat.  Denver City became Territorial capital in 1865 and shortened its name to Denver.  The University of Colorado was established in 1876 in another mining supply town a few miles to the north -- Boulder Colorado.  A few months later, Colorada was granted statehood with Denver being named capital in 1881.

By 1880, there were no fewer than 4-railroads serving Denver --the Union Pacific, the Denver & Rio Grande Western, the Denver, South Park & Pacific, and the Colorado Central.  Union Station was opened in 1881 and remains operating today.

The Gold Rush was followed by a Silver Rush in the 1880's.  By 1890, with over 100,000 people, Denver was the country's 26th largest city and 3rd largest west of Saint Louis.  Today, w
ith over 600,000 residents, Denver is ranked the 24th largest city in the United States.  The Denver Metropolitan Statistical Area ranks 21st largest with a population of over 2,500,000 people.

Denver ranks high on many quality of life lists.  It is a city that has much to offer it's citizens.  If you have decided or are considering moving to or relocating to Denver Colorado, you will find the links below helpful.

Best of luck with your Denver relocation!
